Reports of vehicle vandalism in Greater Manchester have risen by over a third in three years, new figures have revealed.

Slashed tires, smashed windows and broken windscreen wipers were among the damage seen across the region. Police data obtained by RAC Insurance under the Freedom of Information Act show that reports of vandalism in GMP’s force area rose by 37 percent between 2013 and 2016 – the sharpest increase in the country. Across England and Wales, there has been a 10pc jump overall, with some 210,000 vehicles suffering criminal damage in 2016, compared with 191,000 in 2013. And according to the RAC, the real figure could be considerably higher because many motorists do not report incidents for fear their insurance premiums will increase.
